New Supreme Monk Appointed at Wat Suthat

According to a report by Khaosod Online, the Royal Gazette published a royal command on July 14, 2026, announcing the elevation of Phra Phrom Vajiramuni to the high-ranking ecclesiastical title of Somdet Phra Suthatsanavachiramuni. The appointment, effective as of July 12, 2026, formalizes his status as a Supreme Monk residing at Wat Suthatthepwararam Ratchaworamahawihan in Bangkok.

Somdet Phra Suthatsanavachiramuni, born Cherd Chittakutto, is currently 85 years old with 65 years of monkhood. In addition to his new title, he continues to serve as the Abbot of Wat Suthat, an advisor to the Ecclesiastical Regional Governor of Region 4, and a member of the Sangha Supreme Council. The royal decree grants him the authority to appoint ten ecclesiastical aides.
