Thai authorities have tightened safety protocols at a Chiang Mai lion café following an incident where a Chinese tourist was bitten on the face by a lion cub.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) has intervened at a lion-themed café in Chiang Mai. This action follows reports that a Chinese tourist sustained facial injuries after being bitten by a lion cub at the establishment. The café reportedly provided 4,000 baht in compensation to the visitor.
Following an inspection led by Kritsiam Kongsatree, Director of the Protected Area Regional Office 16 (Chiang Mai), authorities have mandated the highest level of safety measures. The café is now strictly prohibited from allowing visitors to hold or have close physical contact with the lion cubs. Additionally, the DNP has issued a formal warning to the business for failing to report the emergency incident within the required 24-hour window.
