Thailand Establishes New Data Center Policy Committee
The Thai government has launched a new committee to streamline data center regulations and energy standards to boost the digital economy.
On September 4, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitithanprapas announced the inaugural meeting of the Data Center Policy Committee at Government House. This new body aims to create a unified strategic framework for the data center industry in Thailand, which currently lacks a centralized regulatory approach.
According to Khaosod Online, the committee is tasked with consolidating requirements that are currently fragmented across multiple agencies, including the Board of Investment (BOI) and the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC). The Ministry of Energy is also developing four specific criteria to manage electricity consumption, including the potential implementation of specialized power rates for these facilities. The committee has ordered a comprehensive data collection process to be completed within one week, with the goal of finalizing new internal regulations within one month.
For residents and travelers, this development signals a significant push to modernize Thailand’s digital infrastructure.
