Bangkok Governor Pauses Data Center Projects Pending New Regulations
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has halted three pending data center projects to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
On September 4, 2026, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt announced that the city is pausing three proposed data center projects. According to Khaosod Online Thailand, this decision follows a meeting of the Data Center Policy Committee, which aims to establish clearer definitions and oversight for these facilities within the capital.
Currently, there are six data center projects in Bangkok, ranging from 9 to 23 megawatts, with three already operational. The Governor stated that the city will conduct intensive inspections of the existing sites to serve as a learning model for future policy. The three pending applications will remain on hold for approximately one month while the committee drafts new regulations.
These upcoming standards are expected to address five key areas: environmental impact, urban planning, building control laws, fuel management, and the stability of water and electricity infrastructure. For residents and visitors, this move signifies a shift toward stricter urban management.
