Marine Rangers Intercept Marijuana Smuggling Attempt at Chanthaburi Border
Thai Marine Rangers seized 100 packages of dried marijuana near the Cambodian border in Chanthaburi province after two suspects fled the scene.
On September 3, 2026, at approximately 7:00 PM, Thai Marine Rangers operating under the Chanthaburi and Trat Border Defense Command intercepted a smuggling attempt near Khlong Takhian in the Pong Nam Ron district of Chanthaburi province. According to a report from Khaosod Online, citing Royal Thai Navy spokesperson Rear Admiral Parat Rattanachaiphan, patrol units observed two individuals transporting four bags toward the canal, appearing to prepare for an illegal crossing into Cambodia.
When officers approached to intercept, the suspects abandoned their luggage and fled across the canal into Cambodian territory. Upon inspection, authorities discovered 100 vacuum-sealed packages of dried marijuana inside the bags. The Royal Thai Navy has since reinforced its '100% border closure' security measures in the area.
