Bangkok Governor Proposes Regulatory Review for Data Centers Following Environmental Concerns
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt is initiating a review of city planning and building regulations to better manage data centers after a recent pollution complaint in Huai Khwang.
On September 4, 2026, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt announced plans to modernize city planning and building control laws to better accommodate the growing number of data centers in the capital. This initiative follows a public complaint regarding a diesel-like odor near a data center in Rama 9, Soi 6, reported on September 3, 2026.
In response to the complaint, the Huai Khwang District Office and the Pollution Control Department conducted an inspection of the area's drainage system. Officials identified an oily residue on the water surface and detected volatile organic compounds (VOCs) at a concentration of 6 ppm. These samples are currently undergoing further technical and legal analysis to determine the source and potential health or environmental impacts.
For residents and visitors, this development highlights the city's ongoing efforts to balance digital infrastructure growth with urban quality of life.
