Sakon Nakhon Anti-Corruption Officials Investigate Costly Streetlight Project
The NACC in Sakon Nakhon has launched an investigation into a municipal streetlight project following reports of premature equipment failure.
On September 3, 2026, the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) office in Sakon Nakhon province conducted an on-site inspection of a local infrastructure project. The investigation follows public outcry on social media regarding the condition of 'innovative' streetlights installed by the Sawang Daen Din Municipality, which reportedly cost 70,000 baht per unit.
According to Khaosod Online, the NACC team inspected 31 poles located in Ban Khok Sawang, Moo 12, Sawang Daen Din sub-district. The inspection confirmed that four of these units are currently non-functional, despite having been in service for only three years. Premjit Jamsai-dee, Director of the NACC Sakon Nakhon office, stated that the team is conducting an in-depth inquiry to determine the cause of the damage and to assess whether the project represents a justifiable use of public funds.
For residents and visitors, this investigation highlights concerns regarding the maintenance and long-term viability of local infrastructure. While the NACC has instructed the municipality to address the immediate issues, the investigation remains ongoing. It is yet to be confirmed whether the failure is due to poor installation, lack of maintenance, or defects in the 'innovative' technology itself.
