Parliamentary Committee Summons Officials Over 40-Million-Baht Bribery Allegations
A House committee has summoned two officials to testify regarding a 40-million-baht bribery case linked to online gambling suppression.
On September 3, 2026, Rangsiman Rome, Chairman of the House Committee on Law, Justice, and Human Rights, announced that the committee has officially summoned Chaiyamphon Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, and Worasit to testify on September 17. The summons follows allegations of a 40-million-baht bribe intended to influence the suppression of online gambling websites.
According to Khaosod Online, the investigation centers on two primary issues: potential bribery involving a government minister, which is currently under review by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), and the operation of approximately 4,000 illegal gambling websites. These sites are allegedly linked to an individual known as 'Mr. Q,' who is accused of attempting to bribe the Minister through a parliamentary assistant. Mr. Q has reportedly denied the allegations.
Rangsiman warned that if the claims regarding the bribery attempt cannot be substantiated with evidence, the Minister could face legal risks related to filing false reports or providing false testimony. For residents and visitors, this case highlights ongoing government efforts to address the proliferation of illegal online gambling platforms in Thailand.
