Ministry of Transport Proposes 'Satun Model' for First State-Owned Seaplane Base

The Thai Ministry of Transport has announced a new initiative dubbed the 'Satun Model,' aimed at establishing the country's first state-owned seaplane base. According to the Thailand Government Public Relations Department, the project is designed to enhance transportation links between the mainland and popular tourist destinations, specifically Koh Lipe and the broader Andaman Sea region.

For travelers and residents, this development could eventually offer a faster and more direct alternative to traditional ferry services, potentially reducing travel time to remote islands. The Ministry has ordered an immediate assessment to identify suitable locations for the facility.

While the proposal signals a strategic move to boost regional tourism infrastructure, it remains in the preliminary planning phase. The Ministry has set a 30-day deadline to reach a conclusion regarding the feasibility and site selection for the project.
