Concerns Raised Over Thailand’s Data Center Expansion

On September 3, 2026, Korn Chatikavanij, a Democrat Party list MP, addressed Parliament regarding the rapid influx of data center investments in Thailand. Korn outlined seven primary concerns, emphasizing a lack of clear governance and coordination among state agencies. He noted that while the Board of Investment (BOI) has granted tax incentives, there is no central authority managing the regulatory framework. Furthermore, he raised questions regarding environmental impact assessments (EIA), noting that pollution risks associated with these facilities remain largely unaddressed.

Beyond domestic policy, Korn alleged that the United States has identified Thailand as a potential transit point for China to access high-end chips, raising geopolitical concerns. He urged Ekniti Nitithanprapas to consider these observations during the inaugural meeting of the newly formed Data Center Committee.
