Proposed Legislation Targets Ticket Scalping and Bot-Driven Sales in Thailand

On September 3, 2026, representatives from the Fair Ticket group and the Thailand Consumers Council submitted a draft bill to the Thai Parliament. The proposed legislation, titled the 'Act on the Regulation of Ticket Sales for Performances and Entertainment Activities,' seeks to address systemic issues in the ticketing industry, including the use of automated bots to hoard tickets and the subsequent resale of these tickets at inflated prices.

According to Khaosod Online, the initiative follows five years of data showing over 8,000 consumer complaints related to ticketing fraud, with total damages exceeding 33 million baht. Notably, only 34% of these cases resulted in financial recovery for the victims. The proposed law aims to establish standardized ticketing systems, prohibit the use of software to bypass purchase limits, and introduce penalties for those engaging in unauthorized resale practices.

For residents and travelers, this development is significant as it addresses the difficulty of accessing tickets for major concerts and events in Thailand. If enacted, the law could lead to more transparent and equitable purchasing processes. However, the bill is currently in the proposal stage.
