Two Men Arrested for Online Gaming Fraud Targeting Minors
Thai authorities have apprehended two suspects accused of defrauding children and gamers through fake online item sales.
On September 2, 2026, Metropolitan Police Bureau investigators, in coordination with Bang Yai police, arrested two men identified as 'Fiat' and 'Non' in Bangkok. According to Khaosod Online, the suspects were apprehended at rental properties in the Nong Khaem and Phasi Charoen districts, respectively, following warrants issued by the Nonthaburi Provincial Court.
The suspects face multiple charges, including public fraud, the input of false computer data, and the illicit provision of bank accounts for fraudulent activities. Authorities allege that the men created credible-looking online gaming profiles to befriend victims, primarily children and youth, by pretending to trade virtual weapons and items. Once victims transferred money for these digital assets, the suspects reportedly failed to deliver the items.
For residents and visitors, this case highlights the prevalence of digital scams targeting vulnerable users in online gaming communities. While the suspects have reportedly admitted to their involvement in the scheme, the investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the financial losses, which authorities have described as amounting to several hundred thousand baht. It remains to be confirmed how many victims were involved and whether additional accomplices are linked to the operation.
