Bangkok Authorities Monitor Chabad Houses Amid Security Concerns
Bangkok officials are coordinating with military and police to monitor Chabad House facilities on Phra Athit Road and Sukhumvit Soi 22 to ensure regulatory compliance and public safety.
On September 3, 2026, Prapas Luangsirinapa, Director of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s (BMA) Department of Public Works, announced that the city is collaborating with military and police units to monitor Chabad House facilities located on Phra Athit Road in Phra Nakhon district and Sukhumvit Soi 22 in Khlong Toei district.
According to Khaosod Online, the initiative follows public concerns regarding the expansion of these Jewish community and religious centers. The BMA emphasized that the primary objective is to maintain public order and ensure that all building usage and activities strictly adhere to Thai legal requirements. Regarding the Sukhumvit Soi 22 location, the Department of Public Works confirmed that the construction project was granted a permit (A.1 No. 360/2562) on December 23, 2019.
