Energy Ministry Investigates Unauthorized Fuel Storage at Bangkok Data Center
Authorities discovered over 200,000 liters of diesel stored without a permit at a data center in the Rama 9 area following public complaints.
According to a report by Prachachat Business, the Thai Ministry of Energy conducted an inspection of a data center located in the Rama 9 district of Bangkok. The operation was initiated following reports from local residents regarding a strong odor of fuel, which raised concerns about safety in the residential area.
During the inspection, officials discovered that the facility was storing more than 200,000 liters of diesel fuel as a reserve without the required legal permits. In response, the Ministry has ordered the immediate removal of the entire fuel supply from the site. Furthermore, authorities announced plans to file a formal police complaint on September 3, 2026, to initiate legal proceedings. Under current regulations, violations of this nature can carry a penalty of up to two years in prison.
For residents and travelers in the area, this incident highlights ongoing regulatory oversight regarding industrial safety in urban zones. While the immediate risk is being addressed through the removal of the fuel, the situation remains under investigation.
