Buriram Resident Reports Identity Theft Involving Disability Fraud
A Buriram woman has reported that her identity was stolen to fraudulently obtain disability status and secure bank loans.
According to a report by Thai Post on September 2, 2026, a 41-year-old resident of Buriram province, Ms. Wipa Haisok, has filed a complaint regarding identity theft. Ms. Wipa, supported by former Democrat Party MP Watchara Phetthong, alleges that criminals used her personal information to register her as a person with disabilities under the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security.
The fraudulent registration reportedly classified her as having type 4-5 disabilities, specifically citing bedridden status and psychiatric conditions. Ms. Wipa claims that this stolen identity was subsequently used to forge her signature as a guarantor for loans from the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC).
For residents and expatriates, this case highlights the importance of monitoring personal documentation and official records to ensure they have not been compromised. While identity theft of this nature is rare, it underscores the necessity of verifying one's status with government agencies if suspicious financial activity occurs.
