CMDF Launches 1 Billion Baht PE Trust to Boost Thai Startups

The Capital Market Development Fund (CMDF) has unveiled its second-half 2026 strategy, focusing on a 1 billion baht Private Equity (PE) Trust to support startup growth and market exits.

According to a report by Prachachat Business, the Capital Market Development Fund (CMDF) has announced its strategic roadmap for the second half of 2026. The organization is prioritizing the launch of a Private Equity (PE) Trust with a target fund size of at least 1 billion baht. To date, the fund has already successfully raised over 600 million baht toward this goal.

The initiative aims to provide startups with better access to capital, specifically targeting 10 sectors within the 'New Economy.' By facilitating this funding, the CMDF intends to prepare these businesses for future mergers and acquisitions (M&A) or initial public offerings (IPO). Additionally, the fund is promoting the TISA-JUMP+ program to encourage savings and enhance the competitiveness of listed companies.

For residents and those interested in the Thai business landscape, this development signals a concerted effort to strengthen the local startup ecosystem and improve the maturity of the capital market. While the fund has secured significant initial capital, the specific criteria for the 10 targeted New Economy sectors and the timeline for the first round of investments remain to be confirmed. This move reflects a broader push to modernize Thailand's financial infrastructure and support emerging high-growth industries.
