Thailand Halts Water Supply to New Data Centers Amid Resource Concerns
The Ministry of Interior has ordered a temporary suspension of water supply to new data center projects to protect public water security in Bangkok and surrounding provinces.
According to a report by Thai Post on September 2, 2026, the Deputy Minister of Interior (MTh.3) has issued a directive to the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) to temporarily halt the provision of tap water to new data center projects. This measure is intended to remain in place until a clear framework for water resource management is established.
The primary objective of this suspension is to safeguard the stability of the water supply for residents in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakan.
