Police Issue Maximum Fine to Driver Blocking Traffic for a Meal
A driver in Thailand was fined the maximum penalty after obstructing traffic to eat at a noodle shop while falsely claiming their vehicle had broken down.
On September 2, 2026, a traffic police officer patrolling the area discovered a significant traffic jam in the left lane. According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, the congestion was caused by a black sedan parked in front of a noodle shop with its hazard lights activated.
When confronted by the officer, the driver claimed the vehicle had a flat tire and that he was waiting for a mechanic. However, when the officer insisted the driver call the mechanic to verify the situation, the driver became evasive and attempted to return to his vehicle. The officer determined that the car was not broken down and that the driver had simply parked there to eat, causing unnecessary disruption to other road users.
Despite the driver’s attempts to plead for leniency, the officer issued the maximum possible fine for the traffic violations. This incident serves as a reminder to residents and travelers that obstructing traffic lanes for personal convenience is strictly enforced in Thailand.
