Ministry of Agriculture Proposes Debt Restructuring for Farmers

According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is moving forward with a plan to restructure debts for members of the Farmers Rehabilitation and Development Fund. The initiative specifically targets cooperative-type debts, aiming to align repayment obligations with the actual financial capacity of the farmers while supporting their long-term livelihood stability.

As of July 10, 2026, a survey conducted across 1,164 cooperatives identified over 23,000 farmers interested in the program. Following a screening process, the Ministry has identified 14,511 eligible farmers who hold debts totaling approximately 8.347 billion baht. These individuals meet the specific criteria of having total outstanding debts not exceeding 5 million baht per person.

For residents and those involved in the agricultural sector, this proposal represents a significant effort to alleviate financial pressure on rural households. While the plan is currently being finalized for submission to the Cabinet for official approval, the specific timeline for implementation and the exact terms of the restructuring remain to be confirmed. The Ministry intends for this measure to provide a more sustainable path for farmers to manage their obligations and maintain their agricultural operations.
