Thai Meteorological Department Issues Heavy Rain Warning for Northern and Northeastern Regions
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall across upper Thailand from September 4–7, 2026, due to a monsoon trough.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has released its second warning regarding severe weather conditions expected between September 4 and September 7, 2026. The forecast indicates that upper Thailand, specifically the Northern and Northeastern regions, will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall. This weather pattern is attributed to a monsoon trough passing through these areas, combined with a moderate southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
Residents and travelers in these regions are advised to remain cautious of potential flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in low-lying areas and locations near hillsides or natural waterways. Authorities recommend avoiding travel through routes prone to recurring flooding.
Additionally, the TMD addressed the status of Tropical Storm 'Soulik' (Sodel) currently located in the upper South China Sea. The storm is expected to approach the southern coast of China between September 3 and 4 before weakening. The department clarified that this storm is not projected to enter Thailand.
