Attempted Bank Robbery Suspect Apprehended at Nong Khai Border

On September 2, 2026, authorities arrested a 29-year-old man, identified as Mr. Suphakorn, at the Nong Khai border checkpoint. According to Khaosod Online, the arrest followed a coordination request from the Koh Chan Police Station in Chon Buri, which sought to intercept a suspect involved in an attempted bank robbery.

Reports indicate that the suspect, who had recently lost his job due to a factory closure, allegedly planned the robbery after experiencing significant financial hardship. He reportedly spent five hours preparing for the act, including writing a threatening note, before attempting the robbery. However, he fled the scene before obtaining any funds. Fearing he might attempt to cross into a neighboring country, Chon Buri police alerted immigration authorities in Nong Khai.

At approximately 12:00 PM, immigration officers and border patrol police located the suspect near a convenience store at the border crossing. Upon questioning, officers found the suspect in possession of the clothing he allegedly wore during the incident.
