Local residents have expressed health and safety concerns regarding a new data center project in the Rama 9 area, prompting an investigation by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.
A data center project currently under construction in Bangkok’s Rama 9 district has drawn scrutiny from local residents. According to a report by Khaosod Online, community members have raised alarms regarding potential health and safety risks, specifically citing the presence of oil odors and oil residue discovered in local drainage systems. The proximity of the site to a hospital has further intensified public concern.
In response to these reports, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) conducted an investigation and identified the project developer as Daria Data Center and Cloud Services Co., Ltd. Official records from the Department of Business Development, Ministry of Commerce, indicate that the company was registered on December 19, 2023, with a registered capital of 2 billion baht. The firm is fully owned by British interests, with Ian Weldon and Wissam Nouri Sattar Al-Dabbagh serving as directors.
For residents and visitors in the Rama 9 area, this situation highlights ongoing monitoring of industrial infrastructure near residential and medical zones. While the BMA has confirmed the identity of the developer and the nature of the project, several questions remain.
