Thai Ministry of Education Moves to Resolve Stalled Songkhla Aquarium Project

According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, Minister of Education Prasert Chantararuangthong announced on September 2, 2026, that the Cabinet has approved a plan to address the stalled construction of the Songkhla Aquarium at the Tinsulanonda Fisheries College. The project, which has been suspended for an extended period, is now the focus of a newly formed eight-party committee.

This committee, which includes representatives from the Office of the Vocational Education Commission (OVEC) and Songkhla Province, is tasked with studying and analyzing the current state of the facility to determine a viable path forward. The Ministry has set a 90-day deadline for the committee to submit its findings and a final resolution plan.

For residents and visitors, this development is significant as the aquarium was intended to be a major educational and tourism landmark in the region. The long-standing suspension of the project has left a prominent facility unfinished for years. While the government has now formally initiated a structured process to resolve the impasse, the ultimate fate of the aquarium—whether it will be completed, repurposed, or demolished—remains to be confirmed pending the committee's report.
