Thailand Launches Free Fruit Baggage Allowance for Air Travelers

According to a report by Prachachat Business, the Thai Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Transport have launched a collaborative initiative with seven domestic airlines to support fruit distribution. Starting September 1, 2026, and running through August 31, 2027, passengers traveling through 20 airports managed by the Department of Airports are permitted to check in up to 10 kilograms of fruit free of charge.

To facilitate this, authorities have prepared 100,000 standardized boxes for travelers to use. This program is designed to assist in the nationwide distribution of seasonal fruits, potentially benefiting both local farmers and travelers looking to transport produce across the country.

For residents and travelers, this initiative offers a convenient way to carry local agricultural products without incurring additional baggage fees. However, travelers should note that the offer is specifically limited to the 20 airports under the Department of Airports' jurisdiction. It remains to be confirmed which specific airlines are participating in the program and whether there are any restrictions regarding the types of fruit allowed or specific packaging requirements beyond the provided boxes.
