Medical Expert Warns of Silent Health Risks Affecting Athletes and Healthy Individuals
Assistant Professor Dr. Surat Tanprawate from Chiang Mai University highlights five silent health threats that can lead to sudden death, even in seemingly fit individuals.
Assistant Professor Dr. Surat Tanprawate, a neurologist at the Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University, has issued a public warning regarding five 'silent' health threats that can lead to sudden, unexpected death. According to a report by Khaosod Online, Dr. Surat noted that even individuals who appear physically fit, including athletes and celebrities, have been known to pass away suddenly during sleep due to underlying vascular abnormalities.
Dr. Surat identified two primary conditions among these risks: coronary artery stenosis, where the gradual narrowing of arteries can lead to sudden cardiac arrest if multiple vessels are affected simultaneously, and cardiac arrhythmia (atrial fibrillation). In the case of arrhythmia, the heart's irregular rhythm can cause blood clots to form, which may travel to the brain and cause a stroke.
For residents and travelers in Thailand, this information serves as a reminder of the importance of monitoring one's health, even when feeling generally well. While the expert emphasizes the necessity of self-observation, it remains to be confirmed how individuals can best screen for these specific silent conditions without professional medical guidance. This report does not constitute medical advice, and those concerned about their health should consult with a qualified healthcare professional to discuss personal risk factors and appropriate diagnostic screenings.
