Thailand Strengthens Online Intellectual Property Enforcement
The Department of Intellectual Property is collaborating with rights holders and online platforms to combat digital piracy and illegal streaming, following a surge in enforcement actions.
According to a report by Prachachat Business, Thailand’s Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) has launched a new initiative to curb intellectual property infringement online. This effort involves a strategic partnership with rights holders and major online platforms to shut down websites hosting pirated content and illegal live streams. Authorities are also expanding their investigations to track the financial trails associated with these illicit operations.
This crackdown comes as the Thai e-commerce market continues to grow, reaching an estimated value of 1.13 trillion baht in 2025. Enforcement data for the first seven months of 2026 shows that authorities have already handled 140 online infringement cases, resulting in the seizure of 322,077 items.
For residents and travelers, this initiative primarily targets large-scale digital piracy and commercial-scale infringement. While the move aims to clean up the digital marketplace, it highlights the government's commitment to stricter digital oversight.
