Thailand Launches Campaign to Promote Tropical Fruit Consumption
The Department of Internal Trade is partnering with major media outlets to boost the visibility and consumption of seasonal Thai fruits.
The Thai Department of Internal Trade (DIT) has launched a collaborative campaign titled 'Thailand: The Land of Tropical Fruits' to increase domestic consumption and support local farmers. According to Khaosod Online, DIT Director-General Wattanayak Maneenet announced that the initiative involves partnerships with major media organizations, including Channel 3, Thairath TV, and PPTV, to provide platforms for farmers to sell and promote their produce directly to the public.
For residents and travelers, this campaign highlights the diversity and quality of Thai agriculture. From August through the end of the year, consumers can expect a rotating selection of regional specialties, such as mangosteens from the South, longans from the North, and young coconuts from the Central region. The initiative aims to showcase that high-quality, fresh fruit is available year-round due to Thailand’s varied climate and cultivation zones.
This effort serves as a reminder of the importance of supporting local agricultural markets. While the campaign successfully creates awareness and provides direct sales channels, it remains to be seen how these promotional activities will impact long-term market prices for farmers or if similar initiatives will be expanded to international export markets in the future. Residents and visitors are encouraged to explore local markets to experience these seasonal offerings firsthand.
