The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a severe weather alert for 35 provinces, warning of heavy rainfall, potential flash floods, and rough seas due to a monsoon trough and Tropical Storm Sodel.

The weather pattern is driven by a monsoon trough moving across the upper North and Laos toward Tropical Storm Sodel in the upper South China Sea, combined with strong southwesterly winds over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. Maritime conditions remain hazardous, with waves in the upper Andaman Sea reaching heights of 2 to 3 meters, and exceeding 3 meters during thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea are advised to remain ashore. Travelers should avoid flood-prone routes and monitor local updates closely. While Tropical Storm Sodel is expected to approach Taiwan between September 5 and 7, 2026, and subsequently weaken, the immediate impact on Thailand’s weather remains the primary concern for the coming 24 hours.
