Weather Alert: Heavy Rains and Rough Seas Expected Across Thailand

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a weather alert regarding a monsoon trough currently affecting the upper North of Thailand and neighboring Laos. This system, combined with a strong southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, is expected to bring isolated heavy rains across upper Thailand, with the potential for very heavy rainfall in the eastern part of the Northeast region.

Residents and travelers in these areas are advised to remain vigilant against the risks of flash floods, overflows, and landslides, particularly near foothills and low-lying areas. Marine conditions are also affected; the upper Andaman Sea is experiencing waves between 2 and 3 meters, which may exceed 3 meters during thundershowers. In the upper Gulf of Thailand, waves are expected to reach approximately 2 meters, rising higher during storms. Authorities recommend that all vessels proceed with caution and avoid areas experiencing thundershowers, while small boats in the upper Andaman Sea are advised to remain ashore.

Regarding tropical storm “Saudel,” currently located over the upper South China Sea, the TMD reports that it is forecast to move toward Taiwan between September 5 and 7, 2026. The storm is not expected to make landfall in Thailand. Travelers are encouraged to monitor local weather updates before planning their trips to ensure safety during this period of unstable conditions.
