New Radar4Flood System Enhances Disaster Preparedness in Thailand
Thailand’s Agricultural Research Development Agency (ARDA) has launched 'Radar4Flood,' a new monitoring system capable of predicting heavy rain and flash floods 24 hours in advance.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, the Agricultural Research Development Agency (ARDA) has introduced a new disaster monitoring tool called 'Radar4Flood.' Developed in collaboration with Kasetsart University, the system is designed to translate complex meteorological radar data into actionable information for local authorities, farmers, and residents.
Currently, the system is being piloted across four major river basins, covering approximately 3.36 million rai of land. The primary objective of Radar4Flood is to provide a 24-hour lead time for heavy rainfall, flash floods, and landslides. ARDA Director Taweesak Tanadechopol emphasized that the system aims to minimize damage to life, property, and agricultural assets by providing timely warnings that allow for better emergency preparation.
For residents and travelers in Thailand, this development is significant as it represents a proactive step toward mitigating the impact of seasonal weather extremes. By offering earlier alerts, the system may help individuals avoid high-risk areas during severe weather events. However, it remains to be confirmed how the public will receive these alerts in real-time and whether the system will be expanded to cover additional regions beyond the current four pilot basins.
