Parliamentary Committee Inspects Flood-Damaged Wat Yan Ang Thong
A House committee has visited Ayutthaya to address ongoing structural damage and moisture issues at the historic Wat Yan Ang Thong temple.
On September 1, 2026, a delegation from the House Committee on Religion, Art, and Culture, led by Chairwoman Thiwalrat Angkinan, conducted a site visit to Wat Yan Ang Thong in the Phak Hai district of Ayutthaya. The visit aimed to assess the long-term impact of the 2011 floods on the temple’s historic structures.
According to reports from Khaosod Online, the temple continues to face significant challenges, including water seepage into the vihara (sanctuary) floor and accumulated moisture. Experts, including Surin Srisangngam from the Ayutthaya Studies Institute at Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Rajabhat University, noted that these conditions pose a serious risk to the preservation of the temple’s architecture and valuable artifacts. The committee is now preparing to coordinate with the Fine Arts Department, provincial authorities, and local government bodies to develop a comprehensive restoration plan.
For residents and visitors, this site remains a significant cultural landmark, though the ongoing structural concerns highlight the vulnerability of Ayutthaya’s heritage sites to environmental factors. While the committee has initiated the assessment process, specific timelines for restoration work and potential access restrictions to affected areas have yet to be confirmed.
