Thai Cabinet Approves 8.6 Billion Baht Rail Technology Strategy
The Thai government has greenlit a five-year strategic plan to advance rail technology, aiming to improve innovation and workforce development through 2032.
On September 1, 2026, the Thai Cabinet officially approved a new national rail technology strategy covering the years 2028 to 2032. According to Deputy Government Spokesperson Ploy-Talay Laksameesaengchan, the initiative was proposed by the Ministry of Transport and will be spearheaded by the Rail Technology Research and Development Agency (RTRDA).
The strategy encompasses five key areas and includes 35 distinct projects, with a total allocated budget of 8.677 billion baht. The RTRDA, established in 2021, is tasked with managing research, fostering innovation, and facilitating technology transfer to support Thailand’s large-scale rail infrastructure investments. By utilizing these research findings, the government aims to standardize rail operations and systematically develop specialized personnel within the sector.
