Thailand Reports 20.8 Million International Arrivals in First Eight Months of 2026
Thailand welcomed over 20.8 million international tourists between January and August 2026, generating over 1 trillion baht in revenue, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
According to data reported by Khaosod Online Thailand, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports has announced that Thailand recorded 20.81 million international tourist arrivals from January 1 to August 29, 2026. This figure represents a 2.97% decrease compared to the same period in the previous year. Despite the slight decline in volume, the tourism sector generated 1,007,140 million baht in revenue from foreign visitor spending.
The top five source markets for international arrivals during this period were China (3,524,071 visitors), Malaysia (2,634,309 visitors), India (1,527,030 visitors), Russia (1,175,121 visitors), and South Korea (765,842 visitors).
For travelers and residents, these figures provide insight into the current scale of tourism activity across the country. Minister of Tourism and Sports Surasak Phancharoenworakul noted that tourism trends showed a deceleration between August 23 and August 29, 2026, which is attributed to the typical seasonal slowdown as the summer school holiday period concludes.
While these statistics offer a clear picture of the year-to-date performance, it remains to be confirmed how the tourism sector will adjust its strategies for the upcoming high season. Observers will be watching to see if the current downward trend in arrival numbers persists or if promotional efforts will stimulate growth in the final quarter of the year.
