Thai Cabinet Approves Massive Development Budget for Southern Provinces

On September 1, 2026, the Thai Cabinet officially acknowledged the results of a regional workshop focused on the five southern provinces: Songkhla, Satun, Yala, Narathiwat, and Pattani. According to government spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek, speaking at Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai Campus, the Cabinet has directed relevant agencies to integrate these development proposals into their annual operational plans.
The initiative involves a substantial budget reaching 64 billion baht. The projects are categorized into two main groups: 44 urgent projects requiring immediate implementation, with a budget of 1.269 billion baht, and 59 policy-based proposals seeking government support. Key focus areas include flood mitigation, road repairs, hospital construction, the establishment of emergency shelters, and initiatives to bolster local business operations.
