Thai Cabinet Approves National Disaster Insurance Scheme
The Thai government has approved a new national disaster insurance program covering 30 million households against floods, storms, and earthquakes.
According to a report by Thai Post on September 1, 2026, the Thai Cabinet has approved in principle the establishment of a national disaster insurance system. Government spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek announced that the state will procure insurance coverage for approximately 30 million households across the country.
The policy is designed to provide financial protection against three specific types of natural disasters: floods, windstorms, and earthquakes. Under the proposed framework, the coverage includes compensation of 100,000 THB for structural damage to homes and 2 million THB per person in the event of a fatality caused by these disasters.
