Ministry of Transport Proposes Three Southern Railway Projects
Thailand's Ministry of Transport is advancing three double-track railway projects in the South, while northern and northeastern routes remain under study.
According to a report by Thai Post on September 1, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn announced that the Ministry is submitting three double-track railway projects in the southern region for consideration during the mobile Cabinet meeting in Songkhla province.
For residents and travelers, these infrastructure developments represent a significant effort to modernize rail connectivity in the South, potentially improving travel efficiency and logistics between major southern hubs. The focus on double-track systems is generally intended to reduce travel times and increase the frequency of train services by allowing trains to travel in both directions simultaneously without waiting at stations for oncoming traffic.
