Thailand Explores First State-Owned Seaplane Hub in Satun

The Thailand Government Public Relations Department announced on September 1, 2026, that authorities have launched the 'Satun Seaplane Model' project. This initiative aims to establish the country's first state-owned seaplane terminal, designed to enhance travel efficiency between the mainland and popular destinations such as Koh Lipe in the Andaman Sea.

According to the official report, provincial officials have been instructed to complete a comprehensive feasibility study within 30 days. The government intends for this infrastructure to attract high-quality tourists and stimulate the national economy by providing faster, more direct access to remote island locations.

For travelers and residents, this development could eventually lead to significantly reduced transit times to the Andaman islands, moving away from traditional boat-only transfers. However, the project is currently in the preliminary planning phase. Whether the seaplane hub will be approved, where exactly it will be located, and when commercial operations might commence remain to be confirmed following the conclusion of the 30-day study period.
