Fire Destroys Makkasan Community Homes; One Fatality Reported
A major fire in the Makkasan community near Saen Saep Canal resulted in 15 homes destroyed and one death.
According to Khaosod Online, a severe fire broke out in the Makkasan community, located near the Saen Saep Canal and Sukhumvit 3 Road in Bangkok, during the early hours of September 1, 2026. Phaya Thai Police were notified of the incident at 2:35 a.m.
Emergency responders, including over 10 fire engines from various stations, the Erawan Emergency Medical Center, and the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, arrived to find wooden houses densely packed together engulfed in flames. Residents were seen evacuating in a panic, with many assisting elderly neighbors and bedridden patients to safety. Firefighters worked for over an hour to bring the blaze under control.
Tragically, authorities confirmed that one person died in the fire, and 15 homes were completely destroyed.
