Prime Minister Anutin Holds Consultations on Southern Border Security

On August 31, 2026, Thai Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul chaired a closed-door meeting at the Songkhla Provincial Hall to address ongoing challenges in the southern border region. The session included representatives from the Southern Border Provinces Administration Centre (SBPAC), local government leaders, religious figures from Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat, as well as members of the private sector and civil society.

According to Khaosod Online, the meeting focused on gathering input from seven key target groups to inform future government policy. Chanthan Sangphum, acting secretary-general of the SBPAC, noted that the administration plans to hold smaller forums across five provinces between September 1 and September 10, 2026, to consolidate proposals before submitting them to the central government. During the discussions, local officials, such as the head of the Krado Subdistrict Administrative Organization in Pattani, requested funding for new drug rehabilitation facilities.
