Thailand Issues Heavy Rain Warning Through September 2
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a severe weather alert for heavy rainfall and strong winds across multiple regions, effective until September 2, 2026.
According to an announcement from the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) on August 31, 2026, Thailand is bracing for increased rainfall, with heavy to very heavy downpours expected in several areas. The alert, designated as announcement number 11, remains in effect until September 2, 2026.
As reported by Khaosod Online, the weather pattern is influenced by a monsoon trough moving across the upper North and Northeast, connecting to a depression near the southern coast of China. Simultaneously, a strong southwest monsoon is affecting the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. The TMD warns that the western parts of the North and Central regions, as well as the upper and eastern parts of the Northeast and the East, are particularly vulnerable to heavy rain.
For residents and travelers, the TMD advises caution regarding potential flash floods and forest runoff, especially in low-lying areas and near hillsides. Travelers should avoid routes prone to recurring flooding. Maritime conditions are also affected; the upper Andaman Sea is expected to see waves of 2–3 meters, with heights exceeding 3 meters during thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea are advised to remain ashore. The lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand may experience waves of approximately 2 meters. While the depression near China is expected to intensify, the full extent of its impact on Thailand remains to be confirmed as the situation evolves.
