On August 31, 2026, Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited Hat Yai to oversee flood management strategies ahead of the rainy season. According to Prachachat Business, the officials have directed the Royal Irrigation Department to prioritize the repair of the R.1 canal and the dredging of critical waterways to improve drainage capacity.
In addition to infrastructure maintenance, the government is conducting inspections of floodgates and ensuring that machinery and personnel are prepared for emergency deployment. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to strictly implement the nine flood response measures established by the Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR), alongside the development of improved flood forecasting systems.
