Investigation Underway Following Khlong Thom Center Fire
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has ordered a two-day forensic investigation into the fire at Khlong Thom Center, with traffic restrictions in place on Worachak Road.
On August 31, 2026, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt visited the Khlong Thom Center in the Pom Prap Sattru Phai district to oversee the aftermath of a recent fire. Accompanied by district officials, the Governor announced that a joint team from the Public Works Department and the Royal Thai Police’s Forensic Science Division has been tasked with entering the site to determine the exact cause of the blaze.
This investigation is expected to take approximately two days. Once the forensic work is completed, the site will be returned to the building owners, who will then be responsible for the demolition and removal of the debris. In the meantime, Police Major General Chaikrit Pho-a, Commander of Metropolitan Police Division 6, confirmed that Worachak Road, located in front of the center, will remain closed to traffic for at least one additional day to facilitate the ongoing operations of the authorities.
For residents and travelers in the area, this closure may cause localized traffic disruptions. While the immediate danger from the fire has been addressed, the structural integrity of the site remains a concern until the owners begin the demolition process. The public is advised to avoid the immediate vicinity of the Khlong Thom Center until authorities lift the current restrictions and clear the area for safe passage.
