On August 31, 2026, Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, announced a 24-hour surveillance mandate for three central provinces in Thailand: Saraburi, Prachinburi, and Nakhon Nayok. This directive follows heavy rainfall between August 30 and 31, which triggered flash floods in areas including Cha-om sub-district, Kaeng Khoi district, and Muak Lek district in Saraburi. The rapid runoff from higher elevations has already impacted local residences, resorts, and transportation routes.
According to Khaosod Online, the Thai Meteorological Department forecasts continued heavy to very heavy rainfall across several regions, including the western parts of the North and Central regions, through September 2, 2026. Officials have been instructed to prepare for potential evacuations and to monitor low-lying areas closely.
