Airbus Selects Thailand as Regional Digital Aviation Hub
Airbus has established its regional Skywise digital operations center in Bangkok, signaling a major expansion of its engineering and aviation technology footprint in Thailand.
According to Khaosod Online, the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) recently announced that Airbus has designated Thailand as a primary hub for its regional digital and aviation engineering operations. Following discussions between BOI Secretary-General Narit Therdsteerasukdi and Airbus Thailand President Bert Porteman, it was confirmed that Bangkok now serves as the regional headquarters for 'Skywise,' the company’s digital aviation unit.
This facility, known as the Flight Operations Center of Excellence, is tasked with supporting the development of modern aviation systems across Asia. The expansion reflects a significant growth in the company's local presence; Airbus currently employs over 200 staff in Thailand, representing a more than threefold increase since 2022. Notably, 85% of this workforce consists of Thai nationals.
For residents and travelers, this development highlights Thailand’s growing role in the high-tech aviation sector, potentially fostering a more robust local aerospace ecosystem. While the establishment of the regional headquarters is confirmed, details regarding future hiring targets or specific technological projects to be launched from the Bangkok office remain to be seen.
