Investigation Ongoing Following Klong Thom Center Fire
Authorities are working to determine the cause of a major fire at the Klong Thom Center in Bangkok, with structural collapses currently hindering forensic access.
On August 31, 2026, Khaosod Online reported that police and forensic experts are investigating the cause of a fire that broke out at the Klong Thom Center on Worachak Road. As of the latest update, investigators have been unable to reach the suspected point of origin on the first floor because the second and third-floor parking structures collapsed, creating significant debris.
Police Major General Watee Asavautamangkura, spokesperson for the Police Forensic Science Division, stated that while drones have been used to survey the site and identify the affected area as Zone C, a thorough physical inspection is required to determine the cause. Authorities are currently coordinating with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and engineering departments to clear the collapsed structures safely. To date, 138 individuals have been interviewed as part of the ongoing inquiry. Officials have not ruled out any potential causes, including arson related to land disputes.
For residents and visitors, the area remains restricted while structural safety is assessed. It is important to avoid the immediate vicinity of the center until authorities declare the site secure.
