Fatal Shooting at Funeral Gathering in Ayutthaya
A 44-year-old man was fatally shot following a dispute at a funeral in Ayutthaya province, according to local police reports.
On August 31, 2026, a 44-year-old man identified as Somphop died after being shot during a violent altercation in Tha Ruea District, Ayutthaya. According to Khaosod Online, the incident began at a funeral gathering where a dispute broke out involving a game of dice. The victim reportedly attempted to intervene in the argument, which subsequently led to a confrontation between him and the other parties involved.
Police from the Tha Ruea Station were notified of the shooting at approximately 2:00 AM near a factory in Sala Loi sub-district. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim in critical condition with a gunshot wound. Despite emergency medical efforts and transport to Tha Ruea Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. Investigators recovered a 9mm shell casing and a wooden club at the scene.
For residents and visitors, this incident highlights the risks associated with unauthorized gambling activities, which can escalate into violence. While the victim’s daughter reportedly captured video evidence of the event, the investigation is ongoing.
