New Discovery Linked to Rayong’s Legendary 'Hong Cave'
Local officials in Rayong have identified a potential exit point of the legendary 'Hong Cave' at Ao Yai Muek, following long-standing local folklore.
On August 30, 2026, local officials in Rayong province conducted an exploration to verify long-standing legends regarding the 'Hong Cave.' The cave, located in the Krachet sub-district, has gained recent attention due to local tales describing mysterious sounds of Thai music and bells emanating from within, drawing visitors interested in history and local folklore.
Chanchai Sripasit, the village head of Moo 2 in Chakphong sub-district, led a team to investigate claims that the cave is an extensive tunnel system. According to historical accounts passed down by village elders, while the main entrance is situated in Krachet, the cave features multiple exit points. The team identified one such location at 'Ao Yai Muek' near Wang Kaew Beach, a well-known tourist destination in Rayong.
Upon arrival, the team discovered a rocky coastal area where a large cave opening appears to have been partially obstructed over time by sediment, including rocks and seashells, leaving only a small visible aperture. For residents and travellers, this discovery adds a tangible layer to the regional mythology surrounding the site. However, the full extent of the cave system and its connection to the original site at Wat Thong Hong remain to be confirmed by further expert investigation. As of now, the site serves as a point of cultural interest for those exploring Rayong’s local legends.
