Chiang Rai Police Seize Nearly 5 Million Methamphetamine Pills After High-Speed Chase
Authorities in Chiang Rai arrested two suspects following a vehicle pursuit that ended in a canal, uncovering a massive haul of illicit drugs.
On the evening of August 29, 2026, police in Chiang Rai intercepted a drug trafficking attempt that resulted in a significant seizure. According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, officers from the Mueang Chiang Rai Police Station pursued a white pickup truck after receiving intelligence regarding narcotics transport along the Ban Pho Ngam canal road in Pa O Don Chai sub-district. The pursuit concluded when the vehicle crashed into a canal.
Upon inspecting the wreckage, authorities discovered 4,990,000 methamphetamine pills hidden inside. Two suspects were taken into custody: a 33-year-old man from Chiang Mai and a 60-year-old man from Phatthalung. In addition to the narcotics, police seized four mobile phones and the pickup truck involved in the incident.
