Ministry of Natural Resources Leads Environmental Initiative in Rattanakosin Island
Thai officials and clergy participated in a royal initiative to study and restore canals in Bangkok’s historic district.
On August 30, 2026, the Thai Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) participated in a royal initiative focused on the environmental restoration of canals within Bangkok’s Rattanakosin Island. According to Khaosod Online, Minister Suchart Chomklin and Permanent Secretary Dr. Raweewan Phuridech led a delegation of senior officials in an event titled '10 Years of Developing the River of Life.'
The ceremony, which began at 7:00 AM, involved 120 Buddhist monks traveling by boat to study the canal network. The initiative aims to promote sustainable environmental management based on the royal principle of 'Understand, Access, Develop.' The event was attended by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, Air Chief Marshal Satitpong Sukvimol, the Principal Private Secretary to the King, and representatives from various public and private sectors. Somdet Phra Wachirasitthacharn, the Abbot of Wat Saket, presided over the religious portion of the ceremony.
