Local Community Holds Ritual for 'Phu Pu Saen Tong' Naga Shrine in Phrae
Residents in Phrae province gathered for a second ritual ceremony at the Phra Phuttha Mongkhon temple to honor the Naga deity, Phu Pu Saen Tong.
On August 28, 2026, residents of Ban Ton Nimit in the Rong Kat sub-district of Phrae province held a second ritual ceremony to honor 'Phu Pu Saen Tong,' a Naga deity associated with the local Saen Tong water cave. According to a report by Khaosod Online, the event took place in front of Wat Phra Phuttha Mongkhon, where the community has been working to transform an ancient sacred water site into a public park and space for reflection.
The ceremony involved offerings of various fruits and 99 boiled eggs, followed by the lighting of firecrackers to signal the start of the ritual and request blessings. Following the tradition of seeking auspicious numbers for local lottery enthusiasts, attendees examined the firecracker tags, which displayed the numbers 834 and 69.
For travelers and residents, this event highlights the deep-rooted local traditions and the ongoing efforts to preserve historical water sites in Northern Thailand.
